Xert Training Pacer Rainbow Dial

The Xert Training Pacer Rainbow Dial is the PERFECT companion to help you achieve your XSS and FOCUS goals when you ride outside.

The Xert Training Pacer Rainbow Dial tells me where I stand on my volume and focus goals in a graphical way.

I woke up this morning, after a good 7 hours of sleep, and opened the Xert App on my phone. Then I clicked on “Training”. The Xert Training Pacer Rainbow Dial gave me a succinct summary of my XSS deficit, and my XSS Goals for the day. I had breakfast, did some work, and then headed out on my mountain bike.

Training Pacer Rainbow Dial Outer Ring

The Outer Ring of the Training Pacer Rainbow Dial is divided into a Grey and Blue ring. If the needle is on Grey, then you need to train. When the needle hits the blue, you can afford to take a day off. I’m REALLY FOCUSED on getting to an FTP of 300 watts, and setting a 20MMP in November, so I’m following the Xert TrainingPacer.

Rainbow Dial Inner Ring

The Inner Ring of the Training Pacer Rainbow Dial is divided into 3 colors. If your needle is in the RED, you are falling behind your planned peak. When the needle is in Grey, you’re on track. If the needle is hovering over the Blue area of the inner ring of the Rainbow Dial, then you’re ahead of schedule.

Use the two rings of the Training Pacer Rainbow Dial, along with the Xert Adaptive Training Advisor, to come up with your own plan for ride volume and intensity.

Today’s Adaptive Training Advisor plan recommended 61 points and a FOCUS of 18:18. My Xert Training Deficit was just 7 XSS points. Therefore, anything above 7 points was bonus time. I headed out on the mountain bike, tried to keep my FOCUS as “High” (numbers trending away from “00:00”) as possible. It worked until the final segment of the climb. The slope of the mountain behind my house dictated power. My FOCUS then went to “7:00” and stayed around that area. It also turned blue, which means “mixed” intensity.

I then focused on descending, as I continue to tweak my rear suspension for optimal performance. I still intend to write about that and have started and stopped many times.

At the end of the ride, my Garmin Xert Fields screen looked like this:

Xert Garmin Fields XSS MPA Focus Strain Difficulty
Ignore the orange dots. I inadvertently hit “STOP” instead of “Screen Capture”.

The recommendation was 61 points. I earned 53. The FOCUS recommendation was 18:18. I hit 7:41. Honestly, it was not a bad day of mountain biking and I am still fresh. That’s the point.

Here’s what the Training Pacer Rainbow Dial now shows, post ride.

All the needles are at 12 O’clock. The Xert Training Pacer Rainbow Dial is telling me that I am RIGHT ON TARGET.

I AM fatigued, so we’ll see how I do overnight. I also feel the itch to hit some intervals tomorrow, but we’ll see.
