Starting Off in an Xert Training Deficit. Points is Points.

I started off Tuesday with Bold Ambitions, but honestly, and this is now kind of rare for me, I ran into a ton of technical issues that ate into my time, and led me to less than half the recommended XSS points for the day. Let’s review, and then look at what I DID do on Tuesday. Bold Ambitions – With a Couple of Technical Hitches

I started off Tuesday with Bold Ambitions, but honestly, and this is now kind of rare for me, I ran into a ton of technical issues that ate into my time, and led me to less than half the recommended XSS points for the day. Also, due to the horrifically poor air quality over the past 12 days, I am coming back from an Xert Training Deficit.

Let’s review, and then look at what I DID do on Tuesday.

Want to Erase Your Xert Training Deficit? Ride the RAINBOW!

The first thing to look at when you’re in an Xert training deficit is the DIAL. The DIAL is a Double Rainbow. It tells you where you are in your training. Are you ahead of schedule, on time, or behind? Should you take a day off?

Ideally, you want the needle in the dial to be between 12 and 1 O’Clock, and based on me taking about 10 days off due to the horrific air quality in Reno this month, it’s closer to 10 O’Clock.

So I have to catch up on cycling VOLUME.

When we Quantify volume, we end up with line 1:

Training Deficit as of 8:15 am: 326 XSS.

There is NO WAY I can achieve 326 XSS on a midweek ride. Even the Advisor knows that.

So, it’s recommending a Workout Goal (Line 5), of just 103 XSS.

And this is what I set out to do. With no time available to ride, shower, and get ready for my work-work.

Make Time – Don’t Try to Cheat Time

So what’d I do?

I rode an interval set of 30-30’s to try and get as many points as I could.

NO, it’s not recommended, but YES, it can be done. It doesn’t achieve base, and it doesn’t positively affect your STAMINA or ECONOMY. But it is what it is. I was time-crunched.

Here’s the link to the ride: https://www.xertonline.com/activities/1aondbhsxbek53xr

I  got in 41 minutes of cycling, burned some fat, burned some carbs, and basically fought my trainer for about 45 minutes trying to unpair it from one thing and pair it with another, before finally giving up. That’s another discussion for another day, and I’m not going to get into it here. Sadly, this is NOT how to start a comeback from an Xert Training Deficit.

I’m not going to be able to ride again on Wednesday, thanks to an employee calling in sick (something he does about once a week), but I am going to be better prepared later in the week, and I’ll have my mountain bike back, which will also help.

We’ll see the needle moving, and I’ll try to point out certain Xert features every post.

Thanks for reading.
