Intrinsic Insights – How What I Look At Applies to YOU

"The information I'm collecting right now is an attempt at revealing the INTRINSIC phenomena of exercise. When a bike ride starts, heart rate goes up. Muscles get squeezed. Breathing rate rises. Oxygen travels and Cardon Dioxide gets expelled. The bicycle moves forward. Calories are burned, Kilojoules are expended. The mind literally turns on extra channels to increase situational awareness, body position and risk assessment. I love this stuff!"

Intrinsic Insights Vs. Extrinsic Values

Intrinsic Data Yields Extrinsic Results
I look at and deduce all of this information so you don’t have to!

I’m coming up on my 29th year as a Cycling Coach. It began in September of 1993, in Bozeman, Montana, when I realized that there were no coaches in the area, and the one I had hired was moving back to Colorado. I then decided to learn everything I could about Coaching Philosophy, Psychology, and Exercise Physiology. But I remain a student of the science, and the sport. There’s ALWAYS something new. Intrinsic metabolic functions lead to extrinsic results.

The information I’m collecting right now is an attempt at revealing the INTRINSIC phenomena of exercise. I love this stuff!

We Know How We FEEL Without All this Intrinsic Information – NOW, Let’s Learn HOW We Feel Intrinsically.

We have never lived in a better time and place to learn just how exercise affects us. My goal with this Road to 300 Watts is to share the PROCESS of exercise adaptation and performance. My argument is this; while all of this information can HELP, it’s not completely necessary. We have to use DEDUCTION (the inference of particular events and results by reference to an accepted principle or law) and INDUCTION (the inference of a general rule, law, or result from particular instances…).

With all this information, we can DEDUCE that if we exercise at DFAA-1 0.75 to 1.00, or at SmO2 on the left lateralis at 40% saturation, that aerobic optimization will occur.

Furthermore, we can INDUCE that because we performed multiple 30-second intervals at 130% of Threshold Wattage intensity, that our Vo2max has improved by 10%.

Viewing the intrinsic, metabolic data in real-time, over longer periods of time, will allow me to help you, the reader and client. We do have an empirical body of knowledge. Now, we have a long-running experiment that will more accurately reveal what does and doesn’t work, through Deduction and Induction observations and conclusions.

Here’s a video summarizing this work. Thanks for reading, thanks for watching, and ENJOY THE RIDE!
