Gang, first off, please let me apologize for a lack of content since mid-to-late summer.

A combination of things conspired against me, including:

  • The forest fires that basically shut down outdoor cycling for two months .
  • We hosted Three Refugees and their pets that same time period.
  • Not much racing or training in the second half of the year.
  • I refuse to race indoors.
  • And honestly, I’ve been incredibly frustrated by the lack of clarity and truthfulness from the leading platform I have to heartily endorsed all these years.

It’s something I’ve seen before, and it’s a fight I know I’ll never win.

In late August, Drew Hartman of PerfPro Studio, announced that he had sold the software platform to Robbie Ventura, who runs cycling studios similar to the ones I had in Dallas. I’ve known Robbie a long time, and this sale was a genius move. Robbie’s new company, www.vqvelocity.com, has held discussions with me about coming on board with them in some capacity. When you look at their list of Advisors, ALL of them are PUBLISHED and ALL of them have remained committed to OPEN SOURCE.

That other platform? Nothing. Nothing in 5 years. Even after I provided them with an Exercise Science PhD, and that individual’s student (himself an MS now), nothing.

It’s disheartening. I refuse to be a Faith Healer or a Tent Preacher. We need evidence, data, empirical histories to detect trends and produce valid hypotheses, etc.

But there’s SO MUCH GOOD OUT THERE IN THE EXERCISE SCIENCE WORLD, and THAT is where I’m going to take you.

I’m recommitting to PerfPro Studio, PerfPro Analyzer, and the modeling concepts of Dr. Philip Skiba and the crew at VQ Velocity.

I’m going to write more about just how incredible DFAA-1 work is to help us better tune our Lower Threshold and achieve better economy at lower weights.

I’m going to demonstrate just how different intervals affect our physiology through data supplied by Vo2master, Moxy, the Polar H10 strap, Garmin head units, and more.

You have trusted me since 1993, to help you on your journey in cycling fitness. The equipment is not cheap, the time requirements are not cheap, and the claims and validity are not cheap and can be confusing.

Bear with me though – I’m feeling productive and I’ve got a lot to say that will be positive, educational, and rewarding.

Stay tuned – I’ll be starting today.
